In the center a group watches Noah (with stick) while he leads a colourful bunch of animals to his ark. The ark is in the distance, to the left of the group. On the left is a calm stream. Nothing hints at the imminent flood. Jan Brueghel here took advantage of his study of animals. He used to be court painter to Archduke Albrecht and the Infanta Isabella, who kept a large collection of animals from across the world in Brussels. |
