The Assyrian warlord Holophernes is so put out over Achior's warning of the Israelites and their god, that he wants to punish Achior. He decides to hand him to the Israelites, whom Achior obviously holds in high esteem. Achior will enjoy his freedom for a while, though not for long,as the Israelites will soon be destroyed – or so Holophernes thinks. Assyrian soldiers leave Achior tied up just outside the Israeli city of Bethulia, in a place from which he is soon liberated. The story of Judith as mediaeval cartoon (historical Bible): |
