Filippino Lippi biography

This work is linked to Matthew 2:11

Lippi made this Adoration for the Convent of San Donato agli Scopeti, a church in Florence. He got the commission after Leonardo da Vinci left the city before completing his version.

Lippi copied Leonardo's setting, which in turn was inspired by Botticelli's. The Holy Family is in the center, members of the De' Medici family are to the left and right. The three Magi kneel in the foreground.

Lippi had already made an Adoration of the Magi fifteen years before this one.
