Paul Cézanne 1839 – 1906 Christ in Limbofresco (168 × 100 cm) — c. 1867 Musée d'Orsay, Paris This work is linked to 1 Peter 4:6 From his grave Christ descends into Hell. He meets a number of lost souls who may at last go to Heaven. This fresco used to be on a wall in Cézanne's father's house near Aix-en-Provence. It was later transferred to canvas. It is a copy of a 1516 painting by Sebastiano del Piombo, but done in Cézanne's own style. Rate this work of art: |
