Christ is still on his cross when the two criminals are taken down from theirs. In the foreground Mary has fainted. John the Evangelist, dressed in green, looks up to his dead master. A group of men with a ladder approach. The first is Nicodemus, who had permission from Pilate to take away Christ's body. Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo was a son of the more famous Italian rococo master Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. |
